Finding old images in my memory cards has always fascinated me, especially seeing the contrast between the last image of a day and the first of the next one. Most times, there would've been no way for me to know that was going to be the next image I was going to make.
I took my last photo a couple of hours ago (the one above), DSC09797. What is DSC09798 going to look like? I have no idea.
The anticipation for the images we are going to create next. Images of scenes that might not even exist just yet. A fleeting moment we will be lucky to witness and capture with our cameras to share with others.
Photography is just amazing.
With this thought in mind, I want to propose a fun experiment: go over your most recent images, choose one you like, and look at the photographs you made right before, and the ones you made right after.
These are some examples from my photo collection:
I made DSC09234, the one of the ladder, on my parent’s farm. I loved the light on that beautiful fall afternoon. DSC09233 was taken in the same place, just a couple hours earlier. I took DSC09235 later that night, back in town.
DSC08561 is definitely one my favorite images I’ve made recently, totally unexpected as I ran into this flock during a night walk. I had no way to know that was going to be my next image, as I was shooting DSC08548 that same morning (I did take a bunch of shots of the sheep, that’s why the names are not consecutive here), a photograph of train tracks in the fog. Funny enough, the first shot I took the next morning was of a horse, DSC08563.
The last example is DSC09254. I made the image of the bull a few days ago, on my way to the Pyrenees mountains. The day before, on my last walk at home, I had taken a random photograph of a well. DSC09255 was made from the first destination of my trip, the Bárdenas Reales in Navarre. Three images from three very different and far apart places.
Let me know what you find. I think this is yet more proof of how unpredictable and amazing photography can be. I can’t wait to see the next batch of images that will become part of my portfolio, and I can’t wait to get out and make them.

I love walking, and I love photography. So, of course, a big part of my photography is done during my daily walks.
The camera gear I carry with me has changed quite a bit over the years, as I try to find the balance between flexibility, versatility, convenience, image quality, and low light performance. In this video, I talk about my current setups.
Come along with me as I photograph a medieval castle on a very foggy morning.
Today, editing software offers us more tools than we'll ever need. Some of them can be used in ways they might have not been intended too, expanding even more the creative possibilities of today's photography.
I hope your week is off to a great start, full of new images and a lot of photography!
I had an awesome weekend of traveling and photography, in places as different as badlands and alpine lakes. I was so excited that I might have gone too hard - I hiked a lot, I got cold, wet, and was eaten by mosquitoes. The result is that I’ve been feeling a bit sick for the last couple of days. But I already feel much better, so I’ll be back out there tomorrow. I really can’t wait to share with you what I’ve been seeing in these beautiful landscapes.
Had a great week,
Adrian
