how do you make a living off of photography?
This is, by far, the question I get asked most often. The answer might be disappointing and discouraging to many: I don’t.
I’ve been a full time photographer for 3 and a half years (time flies!). Even though I do make some money from photography now (thanks for your support!), it’s not enough to pay my bills. If you take into account camera gear, transportation and other expenses, I probably lose money with photography.
How do I do it, then? It’s all thanks to my wife, who has a remote job that allows her to come with me on my trips, and pays well enough to support both of us. My photography is possible only because of her full support.
I don’t take this gift lightly, so I work as hard as I can to make the most of it, while it lasts. For example, visiting all the spots I got to go to during my last road trip across the country would take me years if I had a job and could travel only a few weeks annually. I’m beyond thankful for being able to do what I do.
As of right now, my income comes from selling prints and books, licensing images, YouTube ads, Amazon and eBay affiliate links, and some stock revenue (very, very little). There are a few other sources I haven’t explored yet, like workshops or courses.
I’m hoping all of that will eventually amount to enough money to pay for my travels, camera gear, food and bills. That’d be my dream come true - to keep making images and sharing them with you.
And if it doesn’t work out, that’s ok too. I know I will always be doing photography, no matter what. If the day comes when I have to get back to working a 9-to-5 job, I will continue to shoot before or after work, and on the weekends.
Remember, there’s always an image to be made out there, no matter where you are. And that’s all that matters.

Silence is not absence, it’s balance. It’s what gives meaning to the noise. And that’s what I seek with my photography.

new “image of the month” prints
It’s been a while, but I finally added new prints to the Image of the Month collection. They’re available in 2 sizes, 6x6 and 8x8 inches, matted or framed. Printed on beautiful Hahnemuhle German Etching paper.
Thank you so much for staying with me on this wild adventure.
I hope you all have a great week!
